15 Simple Things To Do Besides Watching TV
Are you tired of the constant noise? T.V. got ya down? Today I am sharing 15 simple things to do besides watching tv. for hours on end.
I have never been a big tv watcher. I’d be perfectly happy to never even own a tv. Whenever I have some down time I relish in the quiet, a cup of hot tea, my husband, and a good book. I know I’m not alone in this, but I also know I’m in the minority. TV is a big part of our lives, but let’s be honest, it’s not always the most uplifting or encouraging way to spend our time these days. Maybe you’re ready to turn of the tv, but you don’t know what to do with your “extra” time. Keep reading because today I’m sharing 15 things to do besides watching tv.
15 things to do besides watching tv
- Pull out a puzzle, get the whole family involved!
- Play a board or card game
- Read, my favorite after the kids have gone to bed!!
- Crochet or knit – if you don’t know how, learn! There are tons of great resources to teach you!
- Draw, doodle, or color.
- Look through your favorite magazine
- Go for a walk. One of my favorite family activities in the evening
- Stargaze
- Plan your meals
- Hand write a letter to a loved one. Grandparents especially love hand drawn cards from the kiddos!
- Talk with your significant other, if you’re like us we feel like we never have enough time to catch up!!
- Call a friend of family member

- Crossword or word search puzzles.
- Go to bed early…you’ll be glad you did tomorrow!
I know these things seem super simple, but trust me, turning off the tv and doing something quiet will have a huge impact on how you feel…even how you sleep. There have been multiple studies done on the effects watching tv (and the artificial blue light from any screen, cell phone included) has on our brains before bed, and how disruptive it can be to our body. (Check out this one here from sleep.org and this one from chronobiology)
I’d love to know if you’re an avid tv watcher, or if like me, you’d be happy to throw it in the garbage tomorrow. ha! Let me know below!!
As always, thanks for spending a tiny part of your day here with me. You are truly the best.
