5 Simple Ways to Slow Down Every Day

If you’re like me summer is busy for you. I’m sharing my 5 favorite ways to slow down every day…even when life is busy!

Summer is so busy for us. Every day is full of farm chores, garden work, housework, fun day trips, and plenty of other activities. Slowing down can seem impossible. Even living way out in the country like we do. I think it’s so important to spend at least 5 minutes every single day focusing on slowing down, and really savoring the little things. Enjoying life. Today I am sharing my 5 favorite ways to slow down every day…even when I’m busy!

5 Simple Ways to Slow Down Every Day

Turn off the electronics.

…yes, ALL of them. We are bombarded with noise, constantly. Between cell phones dinging, the tv blaring, the kids screaming, the dog barking, the iPad chiming…So much of the noise in our life is by our own choosing. It’s a good thing to choose to turn it ALL off every now and then. Simply turning off my cell phone allows me to slow down and really enjoy whatever I’m doing. For me, silence really is golden.

Get Outside.

Spending time outside has been proven to have a wide range of physical and mental health benefits. Did you know that getting outside can lower your blood pressure, reduce feelings of stress or anxiety, increase creativity and memory, boost immunity and more? Try going for a walk and really appreciating creation. I love to go out and simply sit in a field. It’s some of the best medicine in this busy world we live in.

Practice deep breathing.

This is one that you can literally do anywhere, anytime. My favorite time to focusing on my breathing is when I feel my stress level raising. Focusing on slowly breathing in and out allows me to refocus and slow my pace down considerably.

Savor your coffee or tea.

Taking time to enjoy life’s simple pleasures, like that first sip of coffee or tea every morning, is a fantastic way to start your day. Every morning I simply focus on my coffee. How warm and comforting it is, how good it smells, how smooth it tastes, etc. I try to intentionally start every single day out slowly. Savoring every single drop.

Focus on a single task.

I’ve learned that I can not multitask effectively. I’m willing to say a lot of people can’t. Typically, multitasking leaves me feeling frazzled, stressed, and overwhelmed. (Anybody else start 5 projects at once and not finish any of them? Just me?) I’ve learned to do one thing at a time. Not only does this force me to slow down, but I also finish every single task I start. I’ve also learned that I usually do a better job when I focus on one thing at a time.

“It can be hard to resist the thinking that busy is better, or that being busy means you’re more productive and important.”

Doesn’t it seem like the world values busy? It can be hard to resist the thinking that busy is better, or that being busy means you’re more productive and important. Slowing down daily takes intentional effort. It is a choice to make every single day. I hope that these 5 ways to slow down every day help you see it’s possible to be slow down…even when life is busy.
