My BEST Christmas Decorating Tip…EVER!

Today I am sharing the only Christmas decorating tip you’ll ever need. Can Christmas decor really be this simple?

Want to make your home scream Christmas without shelling out big bucks and decorating every single tiny space? Today I am going to share my number one best Christmas decorating tip ever. I don’t think you’ll believe it’s quite this simple…

Several years ago, I accidentally discovered how to make our whole home feel festive without having to decorate every single space, or spend hundreds on new decor every year. Want to know what I did?

I added red. Tiny pops of red to every room. I was blown away with how festive our entire home looked without much effort at all. I swapped the pillow covers out in the living room. Then I added a red table centerpiece in the dining room and brought out a red cookie jar in the kitchen. That. was. it. It was instant Christmas coziness, and I was floored. Could it really be that simple?

Funny enough, just this year, I’ve heard two people I would consider “experts” say that adding red is the number one best way to add Christmas cheer to your home. I whole heartedly agree!

Over the years I’ve added red table runners, pillow covers, and even DIY signs. They all have added just the right pop of color to make things feel festive. I love that. Simple changes can have such big results.

All Neutral Christmases Past

I thought it would be fun to look at a couple of pictures from years I didn’t add in red. These years I kept things very neutral. I believe you’ll be able to see what a difference red makes. Sure, it’s still pretty, because twinkly lights will always be pretty, but it doesn’t feel as Christmas-y. I believe you’ll see the difference, too.

Can you see the difference? The pops of red make the whole place look instantly cheery! This year I’ve mixed a little red in with my mostly neutral tree, and I’m very pleased with how it’s turned out.

I will add that the years I kept everything neutral I had to work more at making things feel like Christmas. In the other pictures I simply added red ribbon, and pillows.

Make sure when you’re out and about at thrift stores to look for things you can use in your Christmas decor. Think outside of the box, too. It doesn’t have to be Santa to be Christmas. Adding red almost always adds Christmas cheer…with or without the big, bearded guy. 🙂

Creative Ways to Add Red in Every room

  • Red pillow covers or throw pillows
  • Red berries in a pitcher or vase
  • Wreath with a red bow (I love hanging wreaths in our windows! Red ribbon makes a great addition)
  • Red table runner
  • Red cloth napkins
  • Christmas Cookie Jar
  • Red handtowels in the bathroom
  • Red dishtowels in the kitchen
  • Christmas soap dispenser for the bathroom
  • Red ornaments (Try just adding a few to your collection of ornaments on the tree already)
  • Red ribbon in the garland or on the tree
  • Red platters or plates hanging on the wall (I LOVE the look of the vintage red dishes with the country scenes on them displayed for Christmas)

I’m sure there are many places you could add a little pop of red. I’d love to know if you think of anything else.
