How to Transition From Christmas to Winter Décor

With Christmas behind us, it’s time to transition our décor to a more neutral Winter feel. I’ll share my 5 favorite tips for accomplishing just that.

I can hardly believe that Christmas has passed. I especially can’t believe that we are already 5 days in to the New Year. Time does fly, doesn’t it? This time of year can seem so bleak after the warmth and glow of the twinkling lights are gone. Today I want to share 5 quick tips to transition from the glow of Christmas to a more neutral, winter décor.

5 Quick Tips For Transitioning Décor

  • Remove the red. This one has the biggest impact instantly. If you’re like me, you love the traditional red and green Christmas. If you remove the touches of red, you’ll be amazed at the difference it makes. Swapping out my pillow covers in the living room always makes the biggest impact.
  • Let Nature dictate your color scheme. If you look outside right now you’ll likely be greeted by bright white snow, touches of ever green, and shiny, silver ice. Bring those colors inside. I love to use bright white, silver, and green in my winter décor. I’ll be the first to admit that those colors can seem cold, though. So let’s move on to my next quick tip.
  • Add lots of texture with cozy blankets, wicker baskets, and textured pillow covers. If you’re just using shiny silver, bright white, and hints of green, there’s a good chance that your house feels a bit “cool”. By adding in texture, you’re adding in so much warmth. I love to use lots of baskets this time of year. Fun tip: hang the baskets on the wall for instant warmth, and cozy!
  • Bring nature in! As crazy as it sounds, I love using sticks and pinecones in my décor this time of year. I always leave my pine branches from my Christmas décor, too. They pull double duty, and I’m so thankful they’re hearty to stay out for a while. I’m not so thankful for the sap…Another fun tip: Fill a basket full of pinecones, or a crock full of twigs. It’s another great way to add texture without spending a dime!
  • Light those candles. If you miss the glow of the tree, light your favorite candle. Better yet, grab a few (or learn how to make your own, more on that later…) and sprinkle them throughout your home. I love walking from room to room and enjoying the different scents of the candles I’ve placed throughout. It really does add instant coziness.
