Weekly Project Update + Life on The Farm

Today I’m sharing a couple of fun projects we got into here, and life on the farm this week!

I had big goals for this week, but I have learned that life on the farm usually isn’t conducive to my goals. Things always come up. Always. Unexpected things. That was the name of the game this week. So, I’ve learned to roll with it, and make the best out of it. I did get a few fun things done. I’m sharing those today, and how one little project has quickly escalated into something much larger. As they tend to do around here.

Porch Refresh

One of our little projects was putting these rockers together. I have wanted two white rocking chairs on this big farmhouse porch for years. Really since we moved in 7 years ago. I got rid of the extra furniture I had out there (I put a free sign on it, and sat it at the top of the road. Talk about the easiest way to get rid of things!!), and these two rocking chairs were seriously the perfect addition.

I had them together in about an hour. That included a LOT of help from a very inquisitive toddler. They were very simple to assemble, and they seem so sturdy. They’re really great quality. I’m very pleased with them. I’ve enjoyed doing my morning devotions and sipping coffee out there every morning since.
This project, however, quickly escalated. Now, I plan to FINALLY paint the porch floor, walls, and ceiling. You guys. This has needed done for years. I finally settled on a color, and Nick is grabbing me a couple gallons of paint. It will be so good to get this marked off the project list. We also have plans to build a baby gate to keep Emmy ON the porch. It will be much more relaxing when she can’t escape and run into the creeks. Ha!

Worm fence + Future Pond

This worm fencing was totally unexpected. We had a dead tree fall in the woods, and limbs were everywhere. I had them all piled up before I realized they’d make the perfect worm fence. This is another thing I’ve always admired and wished we had here. It’s such a simple type of fence but seeing it seriously makes me smile. I love the simplicity of it. I guess I’m a romantic, but it just reminds me days gone by. I can imagine at some time on our property there was fencing just like this, built by the farmers who lived here then.

I totally channeled my inner pioneer for this little project. I had to use the bow saw to cut most of them to the right length. I loved every minute of it.
Lord willing, this is where I plan to dig a small pond for the ducks and future geese of Sunshine Valley. Eli and I have been researching the best way to go about digging a pond by hand. I think we’re almost ready to tackle that DIY project.

Life on The Farm

The weather has been beautiful here. Monday we got some rain, but the rest of the week has been sunny and clear. We’ve been spending most of our days outside working in the garden, and tending to the animals. The chickens have been laying in full force. Most days we get at least 28 farm fresh eggs. The goats are thoroughly enjoying the green grass, and variety of brush they have to browse.
Over all, it’s been a wonderful week. I still have to finish paining kitchen cabinets, but something about this beautiful weather makes me feel like my every waking minute should be spent outdoors.
I’d love to know what you’ve gotten into this week! Let me know below.
As always thanks so much for stopping by! I’ll talk to you soon.
