Quick Mudroom Update & Door Painting Hack

GOOOOD morning! Last week I gave the mudroom a sweet little update by painting the trim. I had half a gallon of paint left from my foyer makeover, and thought “why not!”. I loved the transformation in there, so I knew I’d love it in the mudroom, too! Really, I had nothing to lose.

The color I used is Ashen Tan by Behr paint. I really love the mix of tan and beige. It’s enough color without being way overpowering, and subtle enough to give those cozy feelings. It definitely feels like it “fits” the house, and that’s always my number one goal.

The door to Eli’s bathroom used to be granite gray. It was ok, but it never felt like it belonged. I honestly kept it so long because the door is open 98% of the time, and it just didn’t make it to the top of the priority list. Why paint over something you never see? If you’re wondering, that’s a pocket door, and it slides in the wall. It is literally hidden for at least 23 hours of the day.

The back door was sea salt by Sherwin Williams, and had been for YEARS. It was my favorite paint color for a while. I used it in the majority of our house, you can see it in the Dining Room Before and After, and the Kitchen Before and After posts. I was pretty excited to paint this door. It’s hard to tell in the picture above, but it was pretty scratched and dirty. It definitely needed a coat of paint, BUT if you’ve ever painted a door with glass, you KNOW how tedious that can be. So, I made a short cut. Now, if you’re a professional painter, DO NOT look at these next pictures. They will likely make your eyes bleed, and cause you brain damage. You’ll be ready to call the painting police on me. If you’re a mom like I am, who ain’t got time for tape, and tedious…Let’s do this!

Just PAINT. Slap the paint all over the glass. Go with wild abandon, and paint that bad boy. SAY WHAT?! This why I said, if you’re a professional, you’re eyes are bleeding, I know…I know…Use some tape, take your time…blah, blah, blah…I do not have time. So, I take a razor blade and scrape the paint off the glass. It comes right off with minimal effort, and it’s as good as new. It takes about a fraction of the time, and I don’t have pesky tape to remove. It’s a win, in my book.

You can get razor blades at most hardware stores, even Dollar Tree has them! So easy, and such a time saver. Typically they have a little tool the blades slide up in, but I couldn’t find the tool and didn’t take the time to look. Y’all notice a reoccurring theme with the whole no time thing?! Time is money, or so they say. I like to save as much of both as possible.

Did you notice the trim isn’t painted by the wall? I’m getting sentimental in my old age, and those are Eli’s height marks. That was always a tradition at my grandparent’s house. We were all measured on the door way into their kitchen. Those are such sweet memories. I still can’t believe that sometime soon little Emmy’s measurements will be up there too.

While I am exceptionally pleased with the way painting the trim transformed this little space, my creative wheels started turning and I am taking it a step farther. I’m hoping I’ll get the supplies to do it next week, and be able to post about it soon! I can’t wait to show you what I’m up to in there!

As always, thanks so much for spending a little bit of your day with me!
