3 Easy Ways to Try Minimalism

Have you wanted to try minimalism, but been afraid to take the plunge? Today I’m sharing three easy ways to try minimalism right now (Without getting rid of anything!!)!

One day not very long ago I realized that most people probably don’t dive head first into everything like I do. If you’ve been reading my blog posts, and thinking to yourself you’d like to try minimalism without committing to getting rid of your things, I’ve come up with three ways to try minimalism…WITHOUT getting rid of anything!

Testing out Minimalism…

1. Minimize Your Wardrobe

The first way to try minimalism is to minimize your wardrobe. (You can read about how I minimized my wardrobe here.) Pack up all the things you won’t need that week, and use only the clothes you KNOW you’ll wear every day. For me, it was 4 shirts, a couple pairs pants, and a couple church outfits. Simple. It doesn’t take long to do, and you’re not committing to getting rid of anything. You’re simply testing it out. If you’re like me, minimizing your wardrobe will be the biggest gift you’ve ever given yourself. It takes the guess work out of my morning routine, and I know that everything in my closet fits and feels good. This is such a great way to try minimalism out!

Clear off the kitchen counters

The second place I would suggest is cleaning off your kitchen countertops. This has been a game changer in our kitchen. I LOVE décor. I especially loved to have sweet vignettes set up on our counters. What I quickly learned is that clutter breeds clutter. The little bit of décor turned into a whole lot of stuff. By packing away the unnecessary appliances and décor I can clean my kitchen countertops in less than 5 minutes. If they get cluttered, I know the things don’t belong on them. I can quickly sweep through and have the kitchen clean again. If you’ve been thinking about minimizing try to clear off your counters. I think you’ll love it.

Temporarily minimize an entire room.

This one may be a little more work, but you’ll really get a sense for how minimalism can change your home and life. Remove anything “extra”. Clutter on the tabletops. Books. Movies. Excess furniture. Wall décor. Anything that isn’t absolutely necessary for the room’s function can be packed away. I did this with our bedroom first. I still can’t get over the sense of calm I get when I walk in there. It really has been transformed into a sanctuary for us after a long day of work, chasing kids, and farm chores. Every body needs a place to escape in their home. If you’re ready to really see the impact of minimalism, definitely try this!

Quick recap…you can test out minimalism by…

  1. Minimizing your wardrobe (pack it up, and live with it for a week or two)
  2. Clearing off the kitchen countertops. (EVERYTHING MUST GO…Except your coffee maker if it’s used multiple times a day! Remember you aren’t getting rid of these items. You’re just testing out the calm, peaceful waters of minimalism 😉 )
  3. Minimize an entire room. (again, temporarily. HIGHLY SIMPLIFY one space in your home. See if you don’t find yourself gravitating to that room once you’re done…I promise you, you’ll love it.

That’s it from me today! I hope you had a fantastic weekend. I can’t wait to share with you what I’ve been up to on Friday. As always, thanks so much for spending a tiny part of your day with me.
