Life Lately & What’s Cooking
Good morning, everyone! It’s been a little while since I’ve given a little update on life here on the farm. Time is ticking away, and we are in the thick of homeschool. It’s going well, and we’ve so enjoyed having Eli home with us. We are certainly learning to make the best of things this year. Emmy is already nine months old, and walking whenever she wants. She can speed crawl, as we call it, and be out of reach in less time than I can get up on my feet. She’s a mover and a shaker, for sure!

The chicks we got in May have started laying, and I’m dreaming of the days we gather 20+ eggs. For now, I’m thrilled with the 8 or so we get every day. It’s been so much fun to see which ones are laying which eggs. I love having color and variety in the nesting boxes.
We also had our Sebrights Bantams hatch out over 35 chicks this spring! We had babies everywhere. We were “blessed” with EIGHT roosters, and boy do they make their presence known…every. Single. Day. Ha!
In June we “adopted” three little goats, and I am THRILLED to have them. It just wasn’t the same without a few on the hill grazing. They’re so much fun, and I can’t wait to see Emmy with them when she’s a little older.
What’s Cooking?
This week I thought it would be fun to share what’s cooking in our kitchen every day! I’ve got my menu plan, and I’m ready to roll.
Today we are having roast that is currently cooking in the crockpot. The whole house smells delicious, and I can not wait until time to eat!
I usually keep my roasts simple, and just throw some potatoes, carrots, and onions in with it to cook. Today, I’m using a recipe from the Prairie Homestead Cookbook, and it is one of our favorites. I plan on serving it with some roasted root vegetables, fresh green beans, and homemade bread. Have I said I can’t wait to eat?!
If you don’t have the cookbook, I highly encourage you to order it! It has quickly become one of my favorites, and has earned a spot in the basket on the countertop.
I plan on sharing my favorite homemade bread recipe soon. It is very versatile, and with the bread machine, I can have fresh bread any time I want.
I’d love to know what’s cooking in your kitchen today! I’ll be back tomorrow to share what’s on the menu! I hope you guys have a great day, and as always, thanks for spending a little bit of your time with me!
I made a roast yesterday too. It was pork roast and I used fresh rosemary from my garden.
It is amazing how fast little ones can be. Wait until she starts running.
