Friday Update + Life on the Farm
Life on the farm was action packed this week. Chicks hatching, garden growing, and landscaping projects getting checked off the list make me a happy farmer.
It’s been a good week here at Sunshine Valley. Twenty four days ago, I set 41 eggs in the incubator. Sunday night through Tuesday morning we had 20 of them hatch. They are the cutest, fuzziest little babies. Seriously there is nothing cuter than tiny, day old chicks. Life on the farm is good!

I was able to get something done I’ve wanted to do since we moved in. We have been abundantly blessed with a plethora of rocks around here. Big ones, small ones, flat ones, pointy ones. We’ve got them all. I’ve always wanted to make a rock bed around the irises at the front of the house. I finally got to do it! It was quite labor intensive…you should’ve seen me throwing rocks down the mountainside! (I’m glad we don’t have many neighbors, ha!) I gathered up a whole bunch, and got to work stacking. I am so pleased with how it turned out, and it cost me exactly $0!!
There is still SO much to do out there, like paint every. Single. Thing, but I love how making these inexpensive improvements really changes things.
We made a trip to the greenhouse last weekend, and I got flowers for my window boxes. I think these are my favorites, and I *think* they might be perennial. (There wasn’t a little tag on them. I’m sure I’ve seen them before marked as perennial. Time will tell!) It would be so nice to not have to worry about planting them year after year. Especially since I love these little flowers!!
Inside Projects
As far as inside projects are concerned, I’ve done a little more decluttering and it’s feeling so good in the house! If I had to guess I’d say we’ve parted with a total of 50% of our belongings. I’ve paired down so much, in fact, I’ve been tossing around the idea of getting rid of a few large pieces of furniture. They’re practically empty, and just taking up space!
also….I FINALLY got the upper kitchen cabinets painted. It seriously only took me an hour and a half to do it all. I don’t know why I put it off. Hopefully I’ll share a kitchen post very soon, but I’ll give you a sneak peak of how things are looking in there.
Originally I planned to paint the upper cabinets white. In true Amanda fashion I changed my mind at the last minute and used the same Natural Tan as on the base cabinets. I am so glad I did! Really I love how it broke up the all white kitchen. I do need your help, though. I really love the look of the brass against the tan cabinets. Should I invest in new hardware, or just keep the black?!
What I’m loving this week
I LOVE this pillow. Originally I had planned to use it in the living room. I like it so much better on our bed!
Growing up my Mom always had Corelle dishes. I remember them being so durable. About a month ago I ordered a set of 4 lunch plates, and fell in love. I ended up getting rid of my other white dishes and replaced them with these. Four plates and four bowls. It’s amazing how little cabinet space they take up.
I’ve also been enjoying listening to Joshua Becker when I have a few minutes. His videos are usually short, helpful, and full of good information. If you’re new to him, I encourage you to find his video on why he became a minimalist. It resonated with me, and I’m sure it may some of you too.
That’s all from me today, folks. (I feel a little like porky pig saying that haha!) it’s been a good week. Life on the farm has been grand, and I’m so thankful I get to share it with you. I hope you all have a happy a Memorial Day weekend.
