How to DIY A Hobnail Glass Planter

Today I’ll show you how to DIY a hobnail glass planter for less than $5! Let’s get crafty!

When I was giving our master bathroom an update, I really wanted a nice little planter to go by the sink. I looked at several places online, but did not like the price tag. I was walking through dollar tree one day, and saw these stickers and this little hobnail glass planter was born!

What you’ll need:

  • Jewel Stickers – I found these at Dollar Tree in the craft section. I used one and a half sheets for my bowl.
  • Fish bowl – My dollar tree only had the fluted rimmed fish bowls, I picked this one up at Walmart in the craft section for $1.97. After I looked at vintage hobnail bowls, they almost all had fluted edges. The small bowls at Dollar Tree would probably be very convincing as a DIY!
  • Paint – I used white chalk paint, also from Walmart. I’m sure spray paint would work, too. I pick my chalk paint up in the craft section by the regular acrylic paints.

All I did to create this hobnail planter was simply attach the stickers to the glass bowl in rows. Getting them straight was a little tricky, and they are BY FAR not perfect. The stickers come off in strips, which made it very easy to apply several at a time. When I had a smaller section, I simply cut the amount I needed off a strip. I did learn once you apply the stickers the adhesive on the back starts to set up. It doesn’t come off the glass easily. It’s best to get a pretty good placement on the first try. Sometimes that’s easier said than done! 🙂

Once I was pleased with my sticker placement, I applied a few coats of white chalk paint. Chalk paint is one of my favorites to paint anything glass with. It adheres so well. I’m sure you could use spray paint, too. Especially if it has primer mixed with it. I would just be concerned about it scratching off the glass if it didn’t.

I decided to use mine as a planter, but wouldn’t it be darling with a little candle in it, too?

I’ve heard it time, and time again, “I’m just not crafty enough to make anything.” Well, my friend, if you can apply stickers, and slap some paint on a glass bowl, you can make this hobnail planter, too! It was really THAT easy. I love an easy, inexpensive project.

I’d love to know if you’ve been doing any crafty things lately! Tell me below!!

As always, thanks for spending a tiny part of your day with me. Talk to you soon!
