How to DIY a Simple Floral Pocket Decor + EXCITING NEWS!

Today I am sharing how I made this super simple DIY Floral Pocket Decor. Get ready to get crafty!

It’s been a little while since I’ve shared any of the little crafty things I’ve been doing here around the farmhouse. This little project turned out so good, I knew I needed to share it. I am really not sure what you’d call it, but I’ve sort of named it a “floral pocket decor”. It can be left out year-round, or customized to fit any seasonal decor. What I used

  • A piece of scrap wood
  • a scrap piece of fabric
  • burlap from dollar tree
  • metal word decal also from dollar tree
  • glue gun and glue sticks

How I did it

  1. The first step in this process was scouring our scrap wood pile for the perfect piece of wood. I found one piece of board that worked out perfectly. It had already been stained, so that was an extra bonus.
  2. After I cleaned my board off, I dug through my scrap fabric pile and found some of my favorite green material. I cut enough to cover half of the board, plus have some to fold over the back and sides.
  3. Once the fabric was cut I used my hot glue gun to attach that fabric to the board I selected.
  4. Once the fabric was glued and dried, I used some burlap I got at dollar tree and cut it into a strip like a piece of ribbon. I then glued the “ribbon” I made a to be just a little bit above the top of the fabric.
  5. Once the glue was dry, I glued the metal word onto the “ribbon” and filled it with some floral picks.

I just love how simple this way, and how cute it turned out. It would be darling to have the word “thankful” painted a darker color to help it stand out some. Perhaps if I make another, I’ll try that. You could also leave the metal word off completely and use a more neutral piece (or any that match your decor) of fabric. You would be able to swap out the floral picks seasonally. I love that idea, too.

Are you ready for fall?

I am not really ready to bring out fall decor just yet, but I do love how this little addition brings some color into the living room. It seems like this summer went by so quickly, I’m just not ready to let go of the warm weather and longer days yet.

If you’re like me, and still clinging to summer I thought I’d share three super simple nature inspired tips for late summer home decor. (Fall may be just around the corner, but I’m not ready for orange and pumpkins)

  • Dried Flowers and Grasses: Incorporate dried florals like lavender, wheat, or pampas grass into vases or wreaths. These natural elements bring a rustic, end-of-summer vibe to your home and can easily transition into fall.
  • Natural Textures and Earthy Tones: Introduce natural materials like wood, rattan, and jute through baskets, trays, or throw pillows. Combine these with earthy tones such as soft greens, warm beige, or terracotta to reflect late summer’s golden hues.
  • Outdoor-Inspired Accents: Bring the outdoors in by displaying items like pinecones, river stones, or driftwood in decorative bowls or trays. These organic elements add texture and help create a calming, nature-connected atmosphere.

I HAVE EXCITING NEWS!

Leave it to me to make a big announcement like this on the bottom of a blog post, BUT…I HAVE EXCITING NEWS! For a while now I’ve tossed around the idea of starting a little etsy shop. The other day, I just decided to go for it. You can now purchase all of the printables I make in one place. Right now, it’s just a few fall decor things, but I’ve got lots of ideas for things I’ll be adding to the shop a little later one. I’ll link to it below!
