How to Make a Simple DIY Color Block Vase
This simple color block vase adds the perfect amount of summer color to our table. Today, I’m sharing how easy it is to do, so you can make one, too!
I love simple DIY projects that make a big impact. This color block vase was just that. Super simple, done within an hour, and adds so much summer charm to our dining room. The best part was that I had all the supplies I needed on hand. It was seriously a win-win!

I used…
The process
This project was really quite straight forward.
1). Tape off the section of the vase I didn’t want painted. I chose to paint the top half, and leave the bottom glass. I think I’m going to try to put one of my pothos house plants in this vase. I’ve seen lots of people have good success with pothos in water. I think I may try my hand at it.
2). Spray paint the vase. I really like the Rust-oleum Spray chalk paint. I’d used it before in white when I made over a buffet. The application is so easy. The paint is fairly thick when it sprays out, but it doesn’t really tend to run like most spray paints I’ve used. It only took two coats to completely cover the glass for this little project. I feel like I would’ve needed at least three coats of regular ole spray paint…Even then you may have thin spots.
3). Wait for it to dry. ALWAYS the hardest part of the project for me.
4). Add fresh flowers from my flower garden. The lilies were planted years ago, and I haven’t used them as cut flowers before. I LOVE the pop of color they brought inside…I just wish they lasted longer. What’s that they say about all good things coming to an end?!
Does it get much easier? I don’t think it does.
I have to admit that since I painted this vase I’ve wanted to paint more things that nice blue gray color. It’s so peaceful and relaxing, I think. Isn’t funny how one simple DIY project can lead to a whole house makeover!? ha!
