How to Make Delicious Honey Oat Yeast Bread
Today I am sharing a very special friend with you, and her super delicious super simple recipe for Honey Oat Yeast Bread!
Isn’t it funny how you can “meet” someone through a social media outlet and instantly become friends? That’s exactly what happened when I first found Leslie over on Instagram. I immediately KNEW she was kind, genuine, and caring. A rarity in the world today. We got to know each other a little bit better over the last year, and I am honored to call her friend. Today, I wanted to share her Instagram account with you, and her super delicious recipe for Honey Oat Yeast Bread. Trust me, you’re going to want to make it!
Leslie has such a cool story about the sweet farmhouse she lives in today. I’ll let you read the details over on her Instagram page, but I’ll give you the brief run down. The farm has been in her family since the mid 1800s when her great-great grandfather bought it. Talk about history! She and her husband have lovingly renovated it, and it is such a cozy home. It is the quintessential farmhouse with the wrap around porch, and tons of charm.
One thing Leslie and I have in common is homemaking. She has the sweetest little fella and pours herself into him and her home. She shared a recipe on Instagram not so long ago, and I knew I needed to try it. I whipped up a couple of loaves of her super delicious Honey Oat Yeast Bread. This bread did not disappoint! It is absolutely divine and will be added to my bread repertoire. It was so delicious, in fact, I asked her if I could share it with you. She was kind enough to agree. Without further ado, here’s the recipe!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups boiling water
- 1 cup old fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup honey
- 2 TB butter, melted
- 2 ts. seal salt
- 1 pk dry instant yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F)
- 5 1/2 cups bread flour + additional for kneading
- egg wash and oats for topping
Instructions:
- In a large bowl mix the boiling water, oats, honey, butter, and salt. Let stand for 1 hour. (This is important!) Butter a large mixing bowl and two loaf pans. Set aside.
- After one hour, dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Stir well.
- Pour the yeast mixture into the oat mixture. Add 5 1/2 cups of flour and stir until dough forms.
- Turn onto well floured surface to knead. Add additional flour as needed while kneading.
- Knead for 8-10 minutes or until a ball forms and becomes smooth and elastic.
- Rub the top of the dough with butter and place in the prepared buttered bowl. Cover and let rise for about 40 minutes or until doubled.
- Punch dough down and divide into two halves. Flatten dough and shape each half into 12×10 rectangles. Roll into loaf and place in pans.
- Let rise in a warm place until nearly doubled.
- After the second rise brush the top of the loaves with the egg wash and sprinkle with oats.
- Bake at 350 F for 27-30 minutes.
I LOVE to get my hands in dough. It is instant relaxation for me. What’s better than being able to take your stress out on a ball of dough for 10 minutes! ha! Trust me, if you’ve never hand kneaded bread before, you need to.
