How to Make Healthy Cinnamon-Vanilla Whole Wheat Waffles

No more frozen waffles! Whip up these healthy cinnamon-vanilla whole wheat waffles and feel confident you’re feeding your family the best!

My husband LOVES waffles. When asked on any given day what he wants for breakfast his answer is almost always waffles. Most recipes I ever came across used bleached white flour, sugar, and vegetable oils. Not exactly a 10 on the healthy scale. So, I set out to change that, and thus, these healthy cinnamon-vanilla whole wheat waffles were born.

I decided that I wanted to create a waffle recipe that I could feel good about feeding my family 7 days a week if they wanted them. That meant I wanted absolutely NO added sugar, no bleached flours, and no highly processed oils. With just six simple ingredients I was able to check all the boxes…The best part, they’re delicious too!

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups milk, non dairy works good too
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1-3 tsp. ground cinnamon (depending on how much cinnamon you like. I usually use 1 tsp since the baby eats them)
  • 1 tsp. baking powder

Instruction

  1. Pre heat your waffle iron, if it’s not non stick be sure to coat well with oil
  2. Whisk flour and baking powder together
  3. Add milk and egg to flour mixture
  4. Add cinnamon and vanilla and mix whisk well until fully blended, and the batter is smooth
  5. Using a ladle or measuring cup, pour mixture evenly into hot waffle iron. Cook until golden brown.
  6. Top with your favorite fruit, nuts, or maple syrup.

These waffles are heavier and more dense than the frozen store bought waffles you may be used to, but they’re also much higher in protein and fiber. They’re very filling, and absolutely delicious.

I like to double (or triple) the batch while I’ve got the waffle iron out. These waffles freeze perfectly, and make for super easy Sunday mornings. Simply pull one out of the freezer, and pop in the toaster. I don’t know about you, but I need all the help I can get on Sunday mornings. I have yet to master getting a little girl ready, hair fixed, and out the door on time for church…maybe one of these days. 😉

I’d love to know what your favorite breakfast food is. I’m a pretty basic girl, and am happy with toast and eggs.

  1. Oh I love the thought of making extra for the freezer. My personal favorite is French toast but I definitely love waffles too….scratch that it would be your mom’s homemade cinnamon rolls as my absolute favorite 😋 🤣🤣

  2. I think my waffle iron might be one of those things I kind of regret donating. I didn’t use it much but when winter hits here in Texas, I always get a craving for waffles.
