Why Use a Stand Mixer for Bread?

Using a stand mixer not only saves time and effort but also ensures consistent results. Here’s why it’s a game-changer:

Perfect for Busy Days: Hands-off preparation lets you focus on other tasks while the mixer works.

No Kneading by Hand: The dough hook attachment does all the heavy lifting.

Consistent Texture: Achieve smooth, elastic dough effortlessly.

Stand Mixer Bread Recipe Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups warm water
  • 4 tsp yeast
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup oil, I use non-hydrogenated coconut oil
  • 1 TB salt
  • 6-8 cups flour, I used organic whole wheat

The Process

  • In the bowl of your stand mixer add the water, yeast, and honey. Stir gently to dissolve the yeast and honey. Let this mixture sit until the yeast is active and bubbly. It usually takes about 15 minutes.
  • After the yeast is activated add the oil, salt, and three cups of the flour. (Make sure you’re using your dough hook for the mixer)
  • Turn the mixer on the lowest speed to gradually incorporate the ingredients. Turn off mixer, and add more flour in half cup increments until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl and sticks to the beater. I usually need about 6 – 7 cups of flour.
  • Remove the dough hook, and bowl from the stand mixer. Place the bowl in a warm area of your kitchen, and cover with a dish towel. Allow to rest for about 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes separate the dough into two loaves, and place into prepared loaf pans. Cover the loaves with the dish towel, and allow to rise an additional 20-30 minutes
  • Bake at 350 degrees F for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown

Tips for Perfect Bread

  1. Check Your Yeast: Always ensure your yeast is fresh and active for the best rise.
  2. Gradual Flour Addition: Adding flour slowly prevents over-flouring, keeping the dough soft and pliable.
  3. Use Warm Water: Water that’s too hot can kill the yeast, while cold water won’t activate it. Aim for 110°F.
  4. Customize Your Oil: Experiment with olive oil or melted butter for a flavor twist.

FAQs

1. Can I Use All-Purpose Flour Instead of Whole Wheat?
Yes! All-purpose flour will result in a lighter loaf. You can also mix half whole wheat and half all-purpose for a balanced texture.

2. How Do I Know If My Dough Is Ready?
The dough is ready when it’s smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky to the touch. It should pull away from the sides of the bowl cleanly.

3. Can I Freeze the Loaves?
Absolutely! Allow the bread to cool completely, then wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and store in a freezer bag for up to 3 months.
