How to make Homemade Bread with the Stand Mixer

If you’ve ever wondered how to make homemade bread with the stand mixer, wonder no more! This is the perfect recipe for beginners, or seasoned bakers alike. It’s my go-to sandwich bread, and it’s a hit every single time.

My bread baking journey began at Goodwill. Seriously. I found my first bread machine, and quickly fell in love with all things bread baking. Not too long after that my husband bought me my very first Kitchenaid mixer. I KNEW I needed to learn how to bake homemade bread with the stand mixer as soon as I got it. I tried SO many different recipes, and eventually mashed several together and created this easy, delicious bread. It’s become my “go to” recipe for busy days as I can have it in the oven in about an hour time total. I can usually have two fresh, hot loaves of delicious homemade bread on our table in less than 2 and a half hours with this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups warm water
  • 4 tsp yeast
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup oil, I use non-hydrogenated coconut oil
  • 1 TB salt
  • 6-8 cups flour, I used organic whole wheat

The Process

  • In the bowl of your stand mixer add the water, yeast, and honey. Stir gently to dissolve the yeast and honey. Let this mixture sit until the yeast is active and bubbly. It usually takes about 15 minutes.
  • After the yeast is activated add the oil, salt, and three cups of the flour. (Make sure you’re using your dough hook for the mixer)
  • Turn the mixer on the lowest speed to gradually incorporate the ingredients. Turn off mixer, and add more flour in half cup increments until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl and sticks to the beater. I usually need about 6 – 7 cups of flour.
  • Remove the dough hook, and bowl from the stand mixer. Place the bowl in a warm area of your kitchen, and cover with a dish towel. Allow to rest for about 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes separate the dough into two loaves, and place into prepared loaf pans. Cover the loaves with the dish towel, and allow to rise an additional 20-30 minutes
  • Bake at 350 degrees F for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown

I’ve successfully used this recipe as rolls, bread, and even bread sticks. If you’re interested in learning how I do those, comment below and let me know. Maybe I’ll share them one day soon.

I’d love to know what’s been cooking in your kitchen. Truthfully with summer in full swing, it’s been hard for me to want to spend my days over the stove. I whipped up a batch of sourdough English Muffins last week. Those are always a hit. Other than that I’ve been keeping things super simple with easy to prepare meals. We eat a lot of big salad and breakfast for supper in the summer months. 😉

As always, thanks so much for stopping by and spending a little bit of your day with me at the farmhouse.
