March Scripture Writing Plan: Rest in the Lord

This month let’s rest in the Lord and spend a few minutes each day meditation on God’s Word. The March Scripture Writing Plan is now available!

I will be the first to admit that I am not the best at resting in the Lord. At times, it’s easy to try to do it all on my own. Knowing that about myself, I decided for the March Scripture writing plan I’d focus on what the Bible says about resting in the Lord.

There are so many Scriptures that focus on how the Lord delivers us, protects us, and cares for us. We can read these Scriptures and know that we can fully and completely learn to rest in Him.

Psalm 37:7 says, “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him: Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.”

You may be wondering exactly what resting in the Lord means. Let’s take a look at a few more scriptures to see what the Bible has to say about it.

The Psalmist isn’t talking about physical rest in the verse above, but rather a spiritual rest from confusion, worry, stress, and useless human effort. The Hebrew word used as “rest” in this scripture translates to “be at peace”, “Be still”, “to be quiet or calm”.

As a Christian, we are not granted immunity from life’s storms. Instead, we have a choice to make as to how we respond to those storms. Our natural tendency is to frantically search for help in man, or to try to save ourselves from trouble. These Scriptures show us, though, that we can find total and perfect rest, even amid the storms, in Jesus.

Matthew 11:28-30 says, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

While we are here on Earth, we can find rest in the Lord by taking all of our burdens, problems and anxiety, to Him. We can rest in the fact that God knows our needs, and will supply them according to His riches. As we abide in Jesus, he will pour into us that peace that passeth all understanding.

I challenge you this month to spend a little time each day quieting yourself. Be still. Surrender your burdens, anxieties, and cares to Him in prayer. We know that He is sovereign over the earth, our lives, and even over our enemies. We can peacefully wait for Him and be steadfast, longing, and always looking for His help. That is, after all, how we rest in Him.

This month we will explore Scripture’s that show what a Mighty Deliverer the Lord is, and how He wants us to bring our cares to Him. That gives me such comfort, and I hope it does you, too.
