Simple Inexpensive DIY Door Update
Using only supplies I had on hand I gave our bedroom doors a complete transformation! Today I’m sharing how I was able to pull this DIY door update off FOR FREE!

The other night I was laying in bed, and caught a glimpse of the sad state of our bedroom door. Years ago I had decided to paint all of the dark walnut doors white. Room by room I got them all primed and painted. When it came to our bedroom, my last set of doors I put the paintbrush away, and never finished them. I HATE when I do that. You know how life is though. I lived with the doors this way for years…like four. Yeah. So, I decided I was going to try my hand at a DIY door update. I am very pleased with how they turned out. The best part…IT WAS FREE!

Here’s what I used to totally transform these poor, boring doors:
- Latex paint in the color Timberwolf by DO It Best – I had it lightened by 50%
- 2″ paint brush – yes, I brushed the entire door. I started to get the paint pan out, but decided I didn’t want to clean it up haha.
- black spray paint
- 400 grit sand paper
I knew I wanted to paint the doors darker, and I knew I didn’t have time to run to the Hardware store for paint. I shopped my garage and found 1/2 gallon of this Timberwolf color, and grabbed it. We had a full length mirror on the back of the door and didn’t take it off to paint the first go around. Have I mentioned I was done painting doors when I got to our room? DONE.
Once I had the mirror off I got to work slapping paint on the doors. The problem was when the doors had a fresh coat of paint, the knobs looked especially bad. I have a dream of replacing all the door knobs with vintage glass ones, but they’re harder to find. I remembered seeing some black spray paint, and decided to give it a shot.

These door knobs had seen better days. I wasn’t really concerned about ruining them. I am a little curious as to how well they’ll hold up, but I plan to give you an update in a few weeks. It was SO easy to paint these guys, and it made a HUGE impact.

I really like how the black knobs tie in with the black lights and night stands.
I am amazed at the difference paint made. As these little updates tend to do, it’s sparked a whole plethora of other DIY projects in our room. I’m pretty sure I’ll be painting the walls soon, but choosing a color is always the hardest thing for me.
Have you been DIYing? I’d love to hear about it!! As always, thanks for spending a tiny part of your day here with me.
