The Proverbs 31 Woman: May Scripture Writing Plan
Since May is the month of Mother’s Day I thought it would be fun to take the month and write out the famous chapter Proverbs 31. I hope that this May Scripture Writing Plan is a blessing to you, and an encouragement to mother’s everywhere.
Proverbs 31 is well known by Christian women. It’s an example for us all to be more like, and an encouragement that all of the effort and hard work that goes into homemaking, and motherhood, are worth it. This month in our May Scripture Writing Plan we will take a deeper look into who this Proverbs 31 woman was, and how blessed we are to have mother’s to celebrate.
“Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” Proverbs 31:28
Let’s take a look at some of the characteristics of this noble woman, and how we can apply them to our own lives today.
The Embodiment of Virtue and Strength
The Proverbs 31 woman is portrayed as an extremely virtuous and capable individual. She is not merely a passive character in her own life or in the lives of her family. She is very much the engine of her household. Proverbs 31:17 describes her as girding her loins with strength and strengthening her arms, which symbolically and literally illustrates her robustness and readiness to tackle life’s challenges.
Diligence in Her Endeavors
One of the most striking aspects of the Proverbs 31 woman is her diligence. She rises while it is yet night to provide food for her household and portions for her maidens. Her willingness to work hard is not born out of necessity alone but from a genuine commitment to the well-being of her family and community. This work ethic extends beyond the confines of her home as she considers a field and buys it. With the fruit of her hands, she plants a vineyard.
Business Acumen and Financial Wisdom
The passage also highlights her sense of entrepreneurship and financial acumen. The Proverbs 31 woman perceives that her merchandise is good, and her lamp does not go out by night. This speaks to her continuous efforts and her ability not only to manage household tasks but to engage in trade and business dealings, which were quite progressive attributes for women at the time the text was written.
A Role Model of Compassion and Charity
Her strength and wisdom are matched by her compassion and charity. She stretches out her hand to the poor and reaches forth her hands to the needy. This aspect of her character demonstrates that true virtue extends beyond personal success and into acts of kindness and generosity toward those less fortunate.
The Heart of Her Household
Emotionally, the Proverbs 31 woman is the heart of her household. Her husband confidently relies on her, and she brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. This mutual respect and trust between her and her husband create a stable and loving environment, exemplifying an ideal marital partnership.
Praise and Honor from Her Family
In recognition of her countless virtues, her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also praises her, saying, “Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.” This profound acknowledgment from her immediate family is a testament to her enduring love, hard work, and dedication.
In embracing the virtues of the Proverbs 31 woman, we find a guide to leading a fulfilling and impactful life, cheered on by the love and respect of our families and communities. As we reflect on her story, we are encouraged to aspire to not only achieve our personal best but also to uplift those around us through acts of love and service.
