Three Things I Regret Decluttering + Minimalism Update
Today I am sharing the three things I regret decluttering and how our journey towards minimalism is going!
I’ve gotten rid of 6 heaping truck loads of our possessions. Six. Whole. Truckloads. I’d guess that I’ve gotten rid of thousands of things that filled our home. Out of those things there are three things I regret decluttering. Only three.
- Vintage rotary phone
- An old shutter (it had two broken slats)
- wall stencil that I used to do our bathroom
Looking back, I wish I would’ve kept those three things. That’s it. Three tiny, non-consequential things. The vintage phone didn’t work, but I had dreams of my husband fixing it so it would. The shutter was missing slats. I always told myself I could fix it. The stencils…well, I shouldn’t have gotten rid of them. Plain and simple. Here’s the thing though. Those three things are all easily replaceable. The phone and shutter can be found at thrift or antique stores. The stencil can be reordered easily from the company I got the first one from. Out of thousands of items, there are just three things I miss. Three.
I’ve lightened our belongings by nearly 60% overall. The house still gets messy, sure. We’re real people who live on a real little farm. We really live here. There’s always a mess. The difference is how easy the mess is to clean up. I can sweep through the entire house and have things pretty decent in less than 20 minutes. That’s huge. Especially if you have small children who love to go behind you and make messes. All. Day. Long.
Another blessing has been that I don’t feel the pressure to clean constantly. The kids can play and make a mess. The house can be cleaned up fast!
Having less has allowed me to do more of what I love!
I’ve been able to dedicate more time to doing what I love. Blogging. I love to share my goals, ideas, and plans with you. Having less has allowed me to do more of what I love! I love that.
I’ve learned to always have a box for donations. I am always trying to fill it up with things we no longer use or love. I’m also making new friends…with the sweet ladies that work at the thrift store. 😉

Overall, I am happy with the house. It looks better. It feels better. I’m learning to balance my love of decor and my need for less. I’m sure it’ll be a lifelong process. I can’t wait to share it with you!
As always, thanks so much for stopping by.
I love this!! I haven’t regretted anything I’ve donated….yet. Haha! I’m sure it’ll happen though. Every time I pull up to Goodwill, the sweet man at the back door gives me a hard time, in good fun. One day I need to take him a treat! He’s helped me unload truck fulls over this decluttering journey.
